Pr Albert Mudry

Né en 1958 dans le val d’Hérens, en Valais, Albert Mudry a suivi une formation d’abord classique puis scientifique au collège de Sion avec obtention de la maturité scientifique en 1978. Dès cette date, il suit des études de médecine à l’Université de Lausanne où il obtient son diplôme de médecin en 1984. Après six mois de formation en chirurgie plastique et reconstructive, puis une année en chirurgie générale, il commence sa spécialisation en oto-rhino-laryngologie en 1986 dans le service d’ORL du CHUV à Lausanne (Prof. Savary) et dans le service d’ORL de l’Hôpital cantonal de Lucerne (Prof. Arnold). En 1990, il obtient le titre de docteur en médecine, puis en 1991 le titre de spécialiste FMH en ORL. A cette date, il est nommé chef de clinique adjoint dans le Service d’ORL du CHUV à Lausanne (Prof. Monnier). En 1993 il complète sa formation en otologie et en chirurgie de l’oreille dans le service d’ORL de l’université de Würzburg (Prof. Helms) en Allemagne. En 1994, il obtient le sous-titre FMH en Chirurgie cervico-faciale. En 1995, il s’installe à Lausanne comme praticien indépendant, spécialisé dans les maladies de l’oreille, tout en gardant une activité à 40% comme médecin associé au CHUV responsable de la consultation d’otologie. Cette activité universitaire dura jusqu’en 2004. Parallèlement et depuis 1996, Albert Mudry se forme en autodidacte en histoire de l’otologie avec l’obtention du titre de docteur ès lettres à la faculté d’histoire de l’Université de Lausanne (Prof. Jéquier) en 2007. En 2000, le Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique lui octroie un support financier (FN-no 32-61763.00) pour ses recherches en histoire de l’otologie en Suisse.

Exposition histoire de la chirurgie de l’oreille

La plupart de ses recherches en histoire de l’otologie ont débouché sur des publications dans les meilleurs journaux de référence du monde en ORL et en otologie. En 2009, Albert Mudry a participé à l’élaboration et à la préparation d’une exposition sur l’histoire de la chirurgie de l’oreille qui a eu lieu du 25 septembre 2009 au 12 septembre 2010 au Musée d’histoire de la médecine de l’université de Zurich. Depuis avril 2010, il est affilié, à temps partiel, comme visiting scholar au département d’ORL de l’université de Stanford, Palo Alto aux Etats-Unis, responsable de différents projets de recherche en histoire de l’otologie. En 2017 il y est nommé professeur ajdoint.

En 2012, la Société Suisse d’ORL et de Chirurgie cervico-faciale lui décerne la médaille Franz Escher pour sa présentation intitulée « Société Suisse d’ORL: 100 ans d’histoire ». En 2014, il obtient le D.U. (diplôme universitaire) en histoire de la médecine à l’université Paris Descartes et y devient l’un des enseignants. Depuis début 2015 il est l’éditeur en chef d’un nouveau journal gratuit en ligne d’histoire de l’ORL intitulé Historia Otorhinolaryngologiae (HistoriaORL).
